Promises and Commitment
In order to build an "American Canal," the United States agreed the French company’s concession with a price of $40 million. Also, England opposed the idea and caused problems. Roosevelt signed a treaty with England, committing that the U.S would keep the canal open for all nations for England’s pledge not to inhibit.
